Creating a flow of traffic...

Wow I have done a lot of reading, and I tend to prefer White Hat seo over Black Hat. From what I have gathered, black hat tends towards the spamming of e-mails and pop-ups or pop-unders as I have seen them described in many of the traffic serving companies. I have an aversion to the spam that floods my inbox on a daily basis. I also hate pop ups, pop unders, pop behinds and close them without a thought. That being said, I wasn't going to choose one of those methods for driving traffic to my site.

Heres a quote from Wikipedia that perhaps describes the difference between White hat and Black hat SEO better than I could:

White hat advice is generally summed up as creating content for users, not for search engines, and then making that content easily accessible to the spiders, rather than attempting to trick the algorithm from its intended purpose. White hat SEO is in many ways similar to web development that promotes accessibility,[31] although the two are not identical.

Black hat SEO attempts to improve rankings in ways that are disapproved of by the search engines, or involve deception. One black hat technique uses text that is hidden, either as text colored similar to the background, in an invisible div, or positioned off screen. Another method gives a different page depending on whether the page is being requested by a human visitor or a search engine, a technique known as cloaking.

I had a few misgivings about buying traffic from a provider, it just doesn't logically make sense to me that they would have a list of 10,000 people genuinely interested in a hearing about a new business opportunity, But we decided to give it a go, it's only been two days and I must say, I am disappointed in the results. Yes the numbers have been much higher of people who have clicked on our site, however, the average time spent on the page seems to be 0-5 seconds! Something tells me the traffic quality is poor.

There is hope yet, I have been studying and learning about organic traffic, and my join rate for organic traffic is about 90%, compare that to 0% (so far) for the traffic provider.

So looks like organic is the way we are going to go. Back to the books for me. I will share more about my experience with organic traffic in my next post.
